Pups in the pool!

>> 7.31.2010

Our friends Wayne and Kathryn invited us over last night for a doggie play date and dinner. They have two labs who swim in their pool, so we wanted to see if the pups would join in on the fun. They were a little shy at first and didn't really know what to make of it. After Lance accidentally fell into the pool and was able to swim to safety, Jackson was soon to follow. They eventually built their confidence up and kept jumping back in for me! They even played a little fetch, going after balls and toys that were thrown into the pool.
L&J had a great time playing with Moose and Butters and spent the rest of the night happily chewing on bones from Hedgeapple Farm that Wayne and Kathryn were kind enough to get. What a great night- I don't think we stopped laughing at them for a moment!

Finally- a summer update!

>> 7.23.2010

Yeah.. it's been way too long since I've updated this blog! I'm not going to pretend that I will be good about maintaining it for the rest of the summer, but I'm sure that once school starts back up I will get back into the swing of things. My brain seems to take a rest during the summer months, and that includes putting any kind of thought into blog posts.

So, to recap what's gone on in the Beach/Martin household since the beginning of June:
The school year wrapped up in the middle of June, which meant that I once again packed up everything in my classroom and department to move to another new school. The "new Linganore" is just about complete and we will be moving in for the start of the 2010/2011 school year. Shortly after the last day of school, Greg and I took a week long trip to Colorado. We found a kennel that we really liked (Mariah Belle Manor in Mt. Airy) and left the boys there while we were gone. It was really hard to part with them, but being in Colorado was really great. I called the kennel after the first day to check on the boys and they were doing great! They got lots of play time and individual attention.
Our trip wrapped up with a big surprise- we got engaged! After three great years together, it was time! And the proposal itself couldn't have been more perfect- on a little island in Lake Dillon that we kayaked to- Greg really did a great job! So, we're planning for a July 2011 wedding.
Anyway, when we finally went to pick the pups up at the kennel, we couldn't have been more excited to see them! They seemed to have done great and were exhausted for the next 24 hours (lots of playtime and noise I suppose!)
The rest of the summer has been great. I've been able to start each day with an early morning hour-long walk with the boys. The "puppy alarm" goes off around 6:00 each morning, so as soon as they wake me up, we're out the door. This is good too, because if we went out any later, it would be way too hot!
Jackson and Lance continue to grow like weeds and are loving the newly found freedom we have given them of having the run of the main level of the house. They've done pretty well, but still require quite a bit of supervision.
We boarded the boys at Mariah Belle for a second time when we went to the beach this past weekend, and they did really well again. It's definitely nice to have a place that we can trust to take them! We have one more trip coming up this summer- 4 days in Boston, but luckily my parents will be able to help out with that.
I'll be sure to post more photos as they come along and try to update more often. Not making any promises, but I will get back in the habit of posting at least once a week when school starts again. Until then, happy summer everyone!
